Functional Relationships of the Lower Half - Course Objectives

FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS OF THE LOWER HALF

Upon completion of this three day course you will be able to:

I. Understand and appreciate:
    (a) Dynamic working of the units of the lower half as a functional unit.
    (b) Considering functional relationships when assessing syndromes.
    (c) The need for treating causes of pain rather than painful symptoms.
    (a) The three planes of the body.
    (b) Functional interrelationships of the separate joints of the lower half.
    (c) Triplane rotations and counter rotations that occur at each body part.
    (d) Importance of triplanar rotations and counter rotations to efficient gait.
    (e) The gait cycle and components of same.
    (f) Anatomy, osteokinematics, myokinematics of joints of the lower half.
    (g) The causes and effects of quadrant length differences.

III. Be able to:
    (a) Evaluate the joints of the lower half statically and dynamically
       (i) for normal and abnormal function;
       (ii) and describe their functional interdependence.
    (b) Evaluate the lower half for soft tissue dysfunction.
    (c) Evaluate gait patterns.
    (d) Predict common compensations for dysfunction found in evaluation.
    (e) Outline appropriate treatment programs consisting of
       (i) soft tissue, joint mobilizations & exercise techniques;
