The Pelvic Girdle - Course Objectives
THE PELVIC GIRDLE
Upon completion of this three day course you will be able to:
I. Understand and appreciate:
(a) The role of the pelvic girdle in normal body mechanics.
(b) The importance of the pelvic girdle in assessment of low back pain.
(c) The difference in male and female pelvic girdle anatomy.
(d) The significant factors that influence mobility of the sacroliliac joint.
(e) The influence of lower extremity mechanics on pelvic girdle function.
II. Be able to define and discuss:
(a) The normal movements of the ilium on sacrum.
(b) The normal movements of sacrum on ilium.
(c) The axes of motion of the sacrum and ilium.
(d) The normal movements of the pubes.
(e) Anatomy of muscles and bones involved in the functional pelvic girdle.
(f) The varieties of lesions and dysfunction of ilium on sacrum and pubes.
(g) Iliosacral and sacroilial mobility testing.
III. Be able to:
(a) Evaluate the pelvic girdle for normal and abnormal function.
(b) Evaluate the pelvic girdle for positional asymmetries by palpation.
(c) Formulate an accurate assessment based on results of an evaluation.
(d) Design corrective treatment programs for pelvic girdle dysfunction.
(e) Apply corrective exercises to treat the dysfunction.
